I have an older Utica gas boiler that was making a loud bang when it was turning on. I read that it may need to be cleaned. Last night, I turned off the switch, opened up the front cover and vacuumed out all the debris. When I was finished, I put the cover back on, turned on the switch and relit the pilot. The pilot lit fine but the boiler never turned on. I thought it might have been the thermostat so I turned it up and still nothing. I was hoping you could tell me if I did something wrong or what the problem could be. Thanks!

Brett,
Unfortunately I am not going to be able to give you an exact answer as to what the problem could be. What you really need to do is have a qualified boiler/burner service technician take a look at your boiler.
Things that you can check yourself are:
1. Check to see if your flame monitor actually sees the pilot flame. If it is not seeing the pilot flame it will not let the main flame (open the main gas valves) come on.
2. Watch to see if your main gas valves are getting powered to open. You need to determine if the main gas valves are actually opening. If your main gas valves are opening but your main flame is not firing your combustion mixture could be way out of whack.
We will stop here for now.
Again, the safest action is for you to have a qualified boiler/burner service technician take a look at your boiler.
Good Luck!
