Boiler Basics

Boilers are simply closed pressure vessels in which a fluid is heated, by burning a fuel, so that the heated fluid can be used for either heating or process. The fluids that are heated within these pressure vessels are typically water, steam or oil. Now, to be honest, that’s a pretty generic definition. There is a whole lot more when it comes to boilers and boiler systems.

For example, boilers maybe further defined by the duty performed by the boiler. There are low pressure steam boilers, high pressure steam boilers, hot water boilers, high temperature hot water boilers and thermal fluid heaters.

Boilers may also be defined by construction or design. This would include fire-tube, water-tube, copper fin tube, vertical tubeless and cast iron sectional boilers to name a few.

As our blog progresses, we will examine any and all of these boilers; their designs, applications advantages and disadvantages. We will categorize these into sections in order to make your search for specific information easier to find.
Here’s what we are considering -
